Fafda is a fried crispy crunchy tasty snack made with besan (gram flour), laced with carom seeds and black pepper. Fafda is a famous snack of Gujarat which is eaten hot with jalebi, curry, and green chilies. Fafda served with papaya sambharo and besan chutney is an awesome combination. 

Fafda with papaya sambharo and fried green chilies is one of the favourite breakfasts of every Gujarati Family. In Gujarat, during the Dusshera festival, fafda along with papaya chutney and jalebi are sold like hot cake.

Fafda recipe is not difficult and in fafda there is no need for so many ingredients.

Ingredients 


  • 1 cup gram flour (Besan)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda (Papadiyo Kharo)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Carom Seeds (Ajwain)
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • Salt As Per Taste
  • 1 cup water (As Required)
  • 1 pinch asafoetida (Hing)
  • Oil For Deep-Frying

How To Make Fafda

Step 1:

To make fafda, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and mix well.

Step 2: 

Knead into a soft dough using enough water till smooth.

Step 3:

Once the dough has been prepared, it still might be sticky. Therefore add oil to it and knead it again for 2-3 minutes more.

Step 4:

Once done divide the dough into 12-15 equal-sized portions and make them into small balls.

Step 5:


Place the roll on one side of the chopping board or any flat surface with the base of your palm press and stretch it vertically with light force from one end to the other to form a long strip.

Step 6:

Loosen the strip gently with a sharp knife.

Step 7:

Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan, add the fafda, and deep-fry on a medium flame till it turns crispy and light brown in color. You can deep-fry 2 to 3 fafdas at a time. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step8:

Serve the Gujarati Fafda along with Jalebi, Gujarati Kadhi, and Papaya salad.
